Jimmy Connors Throws Racket In Air To Return Ball In Tennis Match

So how do you handle the high lob? Well, there is always running really fast backwards and then doing a “Tweener” like Federer (hitting the ball between the legs back into the oponent’s court). Or you can do as Connors when he throws his racket in the air!!!

Apparently this happened on the Senior Tour sometime in 1996. Jimmy Connors was the former #1 player. Today, this is not a legal shot as the rules state that the racket must be in the player’s hands the moment of contact. At the time, when Connors throws his racket in the air, the shot was legal as long as the player caught the racket before it hit the ground. Thus this 5’10 American left-handed player won the point.

Here’s a video clip of Federer’s second Tweener.
